Open Access materials such as journals and books can be excellent resources for scholarship and learning that complement Open Educational Resources (OER) well. However, Open Access materials are different from OER in a few ways - the most important of which is that while Open Access materials can be accessed freely by the user, they are often not licensensed for sharing, reuse, and remixing in the way that OER materials are designed.
