Research Help

Welcome to Research Help!

The Information Services Department of the Lyman Beecher Brooks Library is here to assist all members of the NSU community in achieving their research goals through instruction, outreach, one-on-one and small group appointments, and the development of informative guides on the library and its resources.

We welcome your questions, no matter how big or how small, and we look forward to assisting you!

Using the Library

Visit the Library 101 page for a basic guide on how to do everything from finding books on the shelf to using library databases. This orientation to the library will help you become familiar with the library and will also help you become a more thorough and efficient researcher.

Research Guides (LibGuides)

Research Guides are helpful overviews of library resources, research techniques, and time-saving strategies organized by course, subject, or specific topic such as using the library or navigating current events topics like AI. These guides are built by your NSU librarians and are tailored to your courses and research using the specific resources available to you at NSU.

Make an Appointment with a Librarian

In addition to walk-in services at the library services desk on the first floor, librarians are available for research assistance appointments.

Booking in advance can help you get the most out of your appointment by allowing your librarian to perform background research, test specific databases, and collect relevant resources ahead of your meeting.

Please use the booking form here or use the button below: Make an Appointment with a Librarian

Library Instruction

Information Services Department librarians are available to teach a variety of topic from research skills to library resources for classes and groups.

Library instruction courses can be tailored to meet the specific needs of your class or group. Based on your selections in the Library Instruction Request Form, a library staff member will work with you to design a program.

Library instruction classes are usually scheduled in 1-hour blocks, but can be shorter or longer based on your needs or time available.

Learn more on the Library Instruction page or fill out a Library Instruction Request From to get started.
