Standards
Standards are an important part of engineering education and professional practice.
There are many types of standards and there are many types of institutions that maintain them, including professional groups, private entities, and governments. Additionally, some standards are publicly available while others must be purchased.
This page includes information on standards that are currently available through the Lyman Beecher Brooks Library. IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Standards
The full text of the current IEEE Standards are available through the Lyman Beecher Brooks Library.
To access the full list of standards, either use the link below to go directly to the IEEE Standards landing page or navigate there from the IEEE Xplore homepage by selecting Standards from the Browse menu at the top of the screen.

IEEE Standards (Part of IEEE Xplore)This link goes directly to the IEEE Standards landing page within the database IEEE Xplore and can be used to access full-text of all current IEEE Standards.
- IEEE allows you to browse standards by Collection, Number, Topic, and ICS code. In addition, the platform offers an IEEE Standards Dictionary which contains the definitions of abbreviations and words with their related standards.
When browsing the standards, click on Version Details to see that available documents. Be sure to note whether the document that you are looking at is Active or Inactive.
Click on the link for the document that you would like to view to access the document details page.
From the document details page, you can review various information about the standard, such as its scope, version, and amendments.
Click the red PDF button to view/download the document's full text. Please note that this button appears differently on desktop and mobile browsers:
- On desktop browsers, the button appears below the title of the document:
- On mobile browsers, the button is included in the left-side menu. By default, it shows just the Adobe PDF logo and displays "Download PDF" when selected:
